Lando Norris claimed pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix with a 1:17.207 lap after a decisive final run at the Hungaroring. The McLaren driver edged Lewis Hamilton by only 0.012 seconds in a finish decided by thousandths.
The qualifying order did not remain intact. Hamilton received a three-place grid penalty for impeding Oscar Piastri, while Kimi Antonelli was also dropped three places for an infringement under yellow-flag conditions.
After the decisions, the first five grid positions belong to Norris, Charles Leclerc, Piastri, Max Verstappen and Hamilton. George Russell moves up to sixth, with Antonelli starting seventh.
Pole carries extra value at the Hungaroring, where overtaking is traditionally difficult. Norris's advantage does not settle the race, however: tyre management, long-run pace and pit-stop strategy can still reorder the field.
