A modest scoreline, but an important result for the Audi project
Nico Hülkenberg finished ninth in the Hungarian Grand Prix to secure his first two points of the 2026 season. The result did more than change the German driver's personal tally: it moved Audi ahead of Williams and into eighth place in the constructors' standings before the summer break.
According to Formula 1, Hülkenberg started tenth and used a two-stop strategy. In the closing phase, the soft tyre gave him the pace to pass team-mate Gabriel Bortoleto and Arvid Lindblad on his way to ninth.
Why two points carry more weight than they appear
Audi is contesting its first season as a Formula 1 team and is still establishing its competitive level. In that context, a points finish is also evidence of execution: enough race pace, a workable strategy and the ability to convert a starting position into a result.
This was the third consecutive weekend in which Audi scored. Bortoleto had finished eighth in Britain and Belgium, while the Hungarian result added Hülkenberg's first contribution to the team's total. With both drivers now on the scoreboard, the recent progress looks less dependent on a single isolated performance.
A signal before the summer break
Eighth place in the championship does not put Audi among the leading teams, but it provides a concrete reference point for the second half of the season. The team is gaining ground in the midfield and showing that it can capitalise when strategy and tyre management create an opportunity.
The challenge after the break will be to reproduce this level across circuits with different demands. Hungary's two points are not a definitive breakthrough, but they are measurable evidence that the project is beginning to turn development into results.
