REPORTED TALKS — Serie A is reviewing bids for a stake in a new company expected to manage the league’s international broadcasting, sponsorship and betting rights.

Reuters reports, citing sources familiar with the process, that Avenue Capital is currently the frontrunner with a €320 million proposal for 10% of the company. That would value the venture at about €3.2 billion.

A joint offer from Carlyle and Nextalia is reportedly worth around €650 million for approximately 17%. According to the report, Avenue’s proposal is being viewed more favourably because it is structured as a common-equity investment without protections attached to future revenue flows.

What is known: the bids are under review and Avenue Capital is reported to be leading. What remains unconfirmed: Serie A has not announced a winner, no agreement has been signed and the clubs have not given final approval.

Any transaction requires the support of at least 14 of Serie A’s 20 clubs. The talks come as the league seeks to grow its international income, which remains well below the levels generated by the Premier League and La Liga.
