DECISION TAKES EFFECT ON 15 AUGUST 2026
The Kingdom of Morocco has removed the visa requirement for Albanian citizens travelling for short stays. The decision takes effect on 15 August 2026.
Albania’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs published the announcement on 14 August after being informed by Morocco’s embassy accredited to Albania, which is based in Rome.
Once the decision is in force, holders of Albanian passports will not need to apply in advance for a Moroccan visa when their trip falls within the short-stay category.
WHAT IS CONFIRMED
The official announcement confirms three elements: removal of the visa requirement, its application to citizens of the Republic of Albania and the effective date of 15 August 2026.
The ministry links the decision to a commitment expressed in the Joint Declaration signed on 1 March 2025 by the foreign ministers of Morocco and Albania.
WHAT THE ANNOUNCEMENT DOES NOT SPECIFY
The statement does not define the maximum number of days covered by “short stay”. It also does not list documents that may be requested at the border, the minimum remaining passport validity, conditions for work or study, or rules for extending a stay.
Travellers should therefore confirm the complete entry conditions with Moroccan consular authorities or Albania’s foreign ministry before departure. Visa-free travel does not remove border checks and does not automatically guarantee admission to the country.
WHY IT MATTERS
The visa exemption removes an administrative barrier to travel between Albania and Morocco. It may make tourism, family visits and business contacts easier within the limits of short-stay travel and the relevant entry rules.
Those are possible practical effects; the official announcement does not publish forecasts for traveller numbers or economic impact.
