Aston Villa ended Manchester City’s perfect Premier League run with a 2–1 victory at Villa Park. Nicolas Jackson scored both home goals, while Erling Haaland found the net for Enzo Maresca’s side.

JACKSON STRIKES IN THE SIXTH MINUTE

Villa took the lead after only six minutes. Marc Guéhi lost control as City tried to build from the back, John McGinn moved the attack on to Jackson and the striker finished past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

City responded and created chances, but goalkeeper Zion Suzuki denied Iliman Ndiaye and Rayan Cherki, while another Ndiaye effort hit the post. Villa also remained dangerous on the counter before the interval.

HAALAND LEVELS, JACKSON ANSWERS

Haaland equalised with a 52nd-minute header from Ndiaye’s free-kick delivery. It was the Norwegian’s ninth league goal of the season, according to City’s official report.

Just eight minutes later, substitute Ibrahim Mbaye broke down the right and cut the ball back for Jackson. The striker’s first-time shot from inside the area beat Donnarumma and restored Villa’s lead.

WHAT IT CHANGES IN THE TABLE

City remain provisionally top on 21 points, three clear of Arsenal, but have played one match more. Aston Villa moved up to sixth with 11 points. The table position reflects the situation at the final whistle and may change after Saturday’s later fixtures.

The victory was Villa’s third consecutive league win over City and their fourth straight home success against the Manchester club. For City, the defeat ended a run of seven victories in the opening seven rounds.

STATUS: OFFICIAL — the 2–1 result, Jackson’s goals in the sixth and 60th minutes and Haaland’s 52nd-minute goal are confirmed by Manchester City’s official match report. This article contains no transfer claims or unconfirmed details.
