Barcelona have been fined €602 by the Spanish Football Federation following an Atlético Madrid complaint over an approach to striker Julián Álvarez. Reuters reported the ruling and its regulatory basis.
WHAT THE FEDERATION RULED
The sanction was imposed under Article 133 of the federation regulations. Atlético Madrid’s complaint said Barcelona had contacted the player without first notifying his club in writing. FIFA declined to consider Atlético’s separate complaint, saying it lacked jurisdiction.
CONTRACT AND TRANSFER STATUS
Álvarez is under contract with Atlético Madrid until June 2030. The disciplinary ruling is not a transfer, completed agreement or concluded negotiation. Barcelona, Atlético and the player have announced no transfer.
RELATIONSHIP WITH SUPPORTERS
The striker said during the 2026 World Cup that he wanted to fulfil his dream of playing for Barcelona, a comment that triggered a summer dispute. He later apologised and recently scored Atlético’s winner against Deportivo La Coruña.
