STATUS: REPORTED TALKS — OCTOBER 27, 2026, 09:47

Michael Carrick’s future at Manchester United is under review after an eight-match winless run and the 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth.

WHO IS TALKING AND WHAT IS REPORTED

The Guardian reports that director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada held discussions at Carrington over whether the club should dismiss Carrick. The head coach was present at the training ground on Monday.

According to the same report, Eddie Howe is admired by Wilcox and would be open to talks, while Unai Emery, Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte are also mentioned as possibilities. No candidate is presented as appointed or as having completed an agreement.

WHAT REMAINS UNCONFIRMED

Manchester United have not announced Carrick’s dismissal, confirmed formal negotiations with a successor or published any contract or compensation terms. Until the club issues a statement, this remains a reported internal discussion rather than a completed decision.

Carrick is contracted until 2028 after being appointed permanent head coach in May. Reuters’ October 25 report confirms mounting pressure after the Bournemouth defeat, but not an official managerial change.

The accompanying illustration is conceptual; the boardroom and stadium do not document a real meeting and do not depict Carrick or club executives.
