SINNER NOT READY FOR CINCINNATI
Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open because of a right-knee issue, the ATP Tour announced on 9 August 2026.
The Italian said he made the decision after consulting his doctors and team. Sinner explained that his right knee had been troubling him and that, despite working with his medical staff, he was not yet ready to compete.
The announcement does not provide a more detailed diagnosis or a precise return date. Sinner said his focus now shifts to preparing for the US Open.
A MAJOR ABSENCE FROM THE DRAW
Sinner won the Cincinnati title in 2024 and owns a 12–4 record at the event, according to the ATP’s official win-loss index.
His most recent match was the Wimbledon final, where he defeated Alexander Zverev to capture his fifth Grand Slam title. Earlier in 2026, he won the season’s first five Masters 1000 events and, in Rome, became only the second player after Novak Djokovic to complete the Career Golden Masters.
Sinner’s withdrawal follows that of Carlos Alcaraz, who is continuing his recovery from a wrist injury. Cincinnati will therefore begin without two of the leading names in men’s tennis.
