EIGHT FIRES REMAIN ACTIVE
Albania’s National Civil Protection Agency (AKMC) reported on 15 August 2026 that eight wildfire outbreaks remained active across the country. During the same day, response teams had extinguished seven other fires.
Operations were continuing in the counties of Vlorë, Shkodër, Korçë and Tirana. The update provides a national snapshot at a particular time; the number and condition of active fires may change as operations continue.
NO INHABITED AREA REPORTED AT RISK
AKMC stressed that none of the eight active fires threatened inhabited areas. This is the most important distinction in the status report: fires remain active and require intervention, but the official update reported no direct threat to residents or homes.
Sixty Armed Forces personnel were also deployed in support of local civil-emergency teams. The notice did not set a deadline for concluding the operations, so the situation should continue to be followed through further official updates.
AN IMPROVEMENT THAT STILL REQUIRES CAUTION
Compared with the official snapshot on 13 August, when 14 active fires were reported, the new figure of eight represents a reduction at the time of reporting. However, these are snapshots taken at different times and should not be read as a guarantee that the danger has ended.
High temperatures, wind and dry terrain can change conditions quickly. The public should avoid actions that could start a fire and immediately alert emergency services on 112 if smoke or flames are observed.
