Mikel Arteta has confirmed that the problem which forced Bukayo Saka out early in Arsenal's 2–2 draw with Bayern Munich was a quadriceps injury.

Saka left in the tenth minute after going down while attempting a pass and clutching the front of his left thigh. He was replaced by Eberechi Eze.

Arteta said after the match that sharp pain is not a good sign and that the initial picture was concerning, while stressing that the club must wait for the full assessment.

WHAT REMAINS UNCONFIRMED

Arsenal have not published a scan result, injury grade or return date. Any estimate of how long Saka could be absent would therefore be speculation.

In ON MEDIA.AL's initial round-up of the evening's results, the incident was described as a knee concern based on the information available during the match. The manager's later update identifies the issue as a quadriceps injury and supersedes that preliminary description.

Arsenal are also without Christos Tzolis because of a hamstring injury.
