STATUS: REPORTED AGREEMENT

Nottingham Forest are reported to have reached an agreement with Chelsea for Liam Delap. Sky Sports and The Guardian value the package at £45 million guaranteed plus £5 million in add-ons, a potential club record for Forest.

WHAT IS KNOWN

Sky Sports reported on the evening of 25 August that the 23-year-old striker was scheduled to undergo a medical on Wednesday. The Guardian describes an agreement between the clubs and gives the same financial structure.

Delap joined Chelsea from Ipswich for £30 million last summer. According to Sky Sports, he scored twice in 41 appearances during his season at Stamford Bridge, which was also affected by injuries and competition for places.

WHAT REMAINS UNCONFIRMED

Nottingham Forest and Chelsea have not yet issued an official announcement completing the transfer. The medical, signed contract, registration, salary and final add-on structure are not closed facts.

ON MEDIA.AL therefore labels the development a “reported agreement”, not an official transfer. Even a club-to-club agreement can change before the medical and final paperwork are completed.

WHY FOREST WANT HIM

Forest need more power through the centre after Taiwo Awoniyi’s departure. Delap offers physicality, aggression and the opportunity to play regularly, but his actual impact depends on the transfer being completed and on his adaptation to the squad.
