THE RESTRICTION STARTS TONIGHT

The Albanian Road Authority has announced a temporary traffic diversion on the Tirana–Durrës motorway during the nights beginning 14 and 15 August 2026.

Work is scheduled from 23:00 until 05:00. During those windows, crews will install steel beams for the new Kashar overpass, part of the “Tirana–Durrës Superhighway Expansion, Phase III” project.

WHAT WILL CLOSE

According to the road authority, two main carriageway lanes in the Tirana-to-Durrës direction will be temporarily closed. The restriction is required to provide working space and protect road users while the beams are installed.

The notice does not announce a complete motorway closure. Vehicles travelling toward Durrës will be diverted onto two lanes on the left-hand side of the motorway, which will temporarily operate as a two-way road section.

ACCESS TOWARD THE AIRPORT

The authority says vehicles heading to Tirana International Airport will continue without obstruction. Drivers passing through the Kashar area should nevertheless allow for slower traffic because of the diversion and follow all temporary signs.

WHAT DRIVERS CAN DO

Anyone planning to travel toward Durrës between 23:00 and 05:00 should allow extra time, reduce speed near the work zone and avoid unnecessary overtaking on the temporary two-way section.

Because the operation takes place at night, reduced visibility and the changed traffic pattern require additional attention. Instructions from road police, site personnel and temporary signs take priority over the usual lane arrangement.
