DEPORTATION FROM THE UNITED STATES
A 51-year-old man convicted of three murders in Albania and Belgium was deported from the United States and arrived in Albania on the morning of 6 August 2026, Albanian State Police announced.
According to the official statement, Sokol Hoxha, who was born in Fier, had been arrested in Ohio on 5 May 2026. His deportation was completed under an operation codenamed “Globi”. Police did not provide further public detail about the procedural steps that will follow his arrival in Albania.
THE COURT DECISIONS
Police said the Fier Court sentenced Hoxha in 2000 to 25 years in prison for a murder committed in collaboration with another person. The judgment concerns the fatal shooting of two brothers in Patos on 30 March 1997.
In a separate case, the Brussels Court sentenced him in 2010 to life imprisonment for intentional homicide. According to Albanian State Police, the Belgian judgment concerns the fatal shooting of an Albanian woman in Brussels on 29 August 1997.
These are court convictions described in the police statement, not new allegations filed after the deportation.
INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
Albanian State Police said the deportation resulted from cooperation involving the US Embassy in Tirana’s Diplomatic Security Service, Albania’s Criminal Police Department, Interpol Tirana, Interpol Washington, Interpol Manchester and Interpol Brussels.
The US Marshals Service and ICE-ERO also participated. The case illustrates the multi-jurisdictional coordination required to locate and transfer a convicted person when the underlying crimes and court decisions span more than one country.
